A Journey of Hope
After completing her primary education, Hamida aspired to continue with her studies and one day become a tour guide. However, her academic journey faced a setback when she failed her second-year exams. Although she later received support from her father to return to school, she encountered further challenges while living with her aunt, including sexual abuse by her cousin. When she reported the situation, no action was taken, which deepened her emotional struggles. While she was form three, she became pregnant, leading to a six-month separation from her family and eventual expulsion from her aunt’s home.
After giving birth, Hamida remained determined to pursue her education, but her father refused to support her, leaving her feeling hopeless. In a turning point, she approached the headteacher of Jupiter Secondary School, Mr. Honest Leonard Orauya, who welcomed her back and connected her to OCODE through the GRIEG project. With this support, she resumed her studies and regained hope for her future. Today, she is among 209 students enrolled in the Back to School initiative implemented by OCODE in Kinondoni and Bagamoyo. Her story reflects resilience and determination, and she now believes that education will help her achieve her dream and build a better future for herself and her child.
